We live in a world of plenty and excess which means there should be no good reason for almost 17% of the Nashville population to struggle with food insecurity. This is a phenomenon that The Nashville Food Project is both familiar with and unaccepting of. They’ve been working to combat this issue for over 30 decades and have made great strides.
While food handouts may solve hunger for a day, The Nashville Food Project has taken a multi-faceted approach to solve this issue for the long run by setting up for a sustainable future. They battle waste with several food recovery partnerships with farmers, markets, restaurants, and grocers. They attach their meal provisions to non-profit partners that provide crucial services such as after-school programs, job training ESL classes, and emergency shelters. Additionally, they have established community gardens that allow over 80 gardeners a platform that serves as a space for education, community engagement, and a source of organic and nutritious food.
The Nashville Food Project is not about handouts. They embody the idea of “teaching a man to fish” which is exponentially more effective in building a more sustainable future for our community. When hearing about the incredible work they do, the BTJ Insurance team couldn’t wait to pitch in! We’re asking our customers to check out how they can get involved but if not, we’ll donate $10 in your name for each and each person you recommend to us who receives a no-obligation quote. Help us water the seeds of our future and fortify our community!
